Ruth Baptist Church was founded in 1903 in the Ruth Community of rural Bleckley County. John Wilder, a Mercer University student, was invited to come to the area to preach a series of sermons. The Christians in the Ruth Community were exhorted through Wilder’s messages to start a church, and 5 families came together under the leadership of Wilder and began Ruth Baptist Church. Reverend Wilder served as the 1st pastor for the congregation and shephered them until 1907. Since that time, RBC has been served by many pastors and since 2009 by our most recent senior pastor, Todd Bishop. Brother Todd has served as pastor longer than any other pastor in the history of RBC, and during this time he has lead the church in an emphasis on expository preaching, sound doctrine, and biblical church membership.
