The Good News of Jesus Christ God
The gospel begins with God. He is the holy Creator of all things. He made us to know Him, love Him, and live for His glory.
- “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
- “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” (Isaiah 6:3)
- “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36)
Man
Yet we have all turned away from God. Instead of loving Him and obeying His Word, we have sinned against Him, bringing guilt and separation from our Maker.
- “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
- “The wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23a)
- “It is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27)
Christ
But God, in His mercy, sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world. Fully God and fully man, He lived the perfect life we could never live, died on the cross to pay for our sins, and rose again in
victory over sin and death.
- “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
- “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
- “Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures… he was buried… he was raised on the third day.” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4)
Response
The gospel calls for a response. God commands all people everywhere to repent and believe in Jesus Christ. To repent means to turn from sin and self, and to believe is to trust in Christ alone for
salvation. Those who do will be forgiven, made new, and given eternal life.
- “Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.” (Acts 3:19)
- “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31)
- “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans
10:9)
The Invitation
This is the good news: though we are sinners, Christ is a perfect Savior. He invites you today:
- “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
Will you turn from your sin and trust in Him?
